Czech Association of Applied Geophysicists was founded in
1992.
It is a voluntary, non-profit, professional association of
professionals working in the field of applied geophysics in the
Czech Republic.
The mission and main goals of CAAG are:
- to protect the interests of its members and of the field of
activity as a whole
- to increase the professional level of Czech applied
geophysics
- to develop professional skills and ethics of its members
- to represent Czech applied geophysics towards governmental
institutions
- to take part in legislative and norm-setting activities
related to the branch
- to cooperate with Czech professional associations
representing related geosciences
- to cooperate with foreign and international organisations
of the same focus
- to develop cooperation with local and foreign
geoscientific institutions and companies
- to provide professional, expert and consultancy help to
users of applied geophysics
- to support the members, as well as users of applied
geophysics and other interested parties, by means of providing
up-to-date information, organising professional events,
seminars, and conferences, and supporting publication
CAAG is an associated society of European Association of
Geoscientists & Engineers (EAGE)
and member of UGA (Union of
Geological Associations) - an organisation roofing all Czech
professional geoscientific associations. Through UGA, CAAG is
also member of EFG (European Federation of Geologists).
At present, CAAG has around 100 members forming 3 local
branches - Praha, Brno and Ostrava. They represent 29
companies, 6 universities, 4 research institutes and 2
governmental authorities.
CAAG is an experienced organiser of scientific events -
seminars, workshops and conferences. Some of you probably
remember the successful Near Surface 2003 (9th European Meeting
of Environmental and Engineering Geophysics), organised by CAAG
in Prague in September 2003.
Every year CAAG organises several workshops and seminars for
its members and broader geological public, inviting outstanding
scientists as well as representatives of leading geophysical
companies, both from Czechia and abroad. The Ostrava branch of
CAAG organises an annual regional Czech-Slovak-Polish
conference on seismology and applied geophysics in Ostrava.
Since 1994 CAAG has published a scientific journal called EGRSE
- Exploration Geophysics, Remote sensing and Environment. Both
English and Czech issues (1 - 2 per year) are printed by turns.
